hello lovely creatures,
excitement! i’m interviewing jennifer joseph, founder of Manic D Press, on monday. here is an excerpt from one of her poems, “Endangered Species:”
I read books when I don’t want to be interactive – I spend more than enough time with the phone/fax/copier/computer/answering machine/ meowing cat/noisy washing machine/humming refrigerator/radio/TV/ my problems/your problems – I spend enough time interacting – quiet time is what I crave, can never have enough of – just me and my book, heavy in hand, crisp smell of new ink, crack of the spine, ssshhh quiet – pages turning – ssshhh listen it’s the sound of an active imagination churning.
She has also said: “It’s always been my belief that every generation has to take responsibility for itself, documenting its own interests and experiences.”
My review 0f Phedre is live. And read my feature on Ransom Stephens + The God Patent!
Quiet Lightning was out of control, dangerous fun, rainstorm indoor comfort. i feel blessed to even know about some of these people, let alone call them my friends. if only the videos would render faster i would share them with you. some things feel tremendous to share!
Oh! Also I posted some new pictures.
e
i gesture you
in the last 8 days i went to four literary events: writers with drinks, the rumpus, why there are words, and bang out – each one for the first time – saw my name in print for the first time, attended the memorial service for beloved beat poet lenore kandel, and secured a once-a-week job as personal assistant to publishers Richard Grossinger and Lindy Hough – a job that will almost exactly pay my rent.
i am overflowing – with tears, mostly, but i have moments of ecstasy (to be fn sure).
also, quiet lightning is about to strike for the second time and i’m ready! are you?
at the end of the link to lenore’s article (above) i posted the literary events for the next 2 wks i’m thinking about going to. if you have any others, send em my way. and if you want to join me, send me a line.
love,
e
